Pia Horan-Gross

Pia has been a Christian since her late thirties. She believes in a born-again saving experience (John 3:1-21), not just "becoming religious", as some would define salvation. This event sealed a life-long search for spiritual truth, starting with Catholicism, Atheism, Anthroposophy, Buddhism and the teachings of Krishnamurti until she, somehow (by God's grace) stumbled into born-again Christianity! Being a lifelong learner, she received a Batchelor of Health Science Degree from Sydney University in 2000, after having received a Certificate in Welfare Work from North Sydney TAFE and a certificate for a part-time course in English Literature from the University of the Third Age (Sydney Uni), boosting her literary and creative interests. Her burden for the plight of refugees had been there for a while until, in 2014, she responded to a call for specific prayer support for this tragic section of humanity. Her initial prayer and intercessory group became the present group of followers of this informative website, https://worldwiderefugeeprayernetwork.com, where she has been posting updates for prayer regarding refugee needs.

Latest Update on Rescue Missions in the Mediterranean Sea of Refugees

Far from any major public attention, the humanitarian situation in the central Mediterranean has hit new and sad lows in recent weeks. The civil rescue ships SEA-WATCH 3, AITA MARI and GEO BARENTS were able to save more than 800 lives within a few days. At this hour, the AITA MARI and the GEO BARENTS […]

The Argument for or against allowing 20,000 Afghan Refugees into Australia

Australia has said it would accept 3,000, possibly 5,000 Afghan refugees into the country, after the recent takeover of Afghanistan by the Taliban. There are many voices and petitions at present that the number should be 20,000. The twenty years of war by coalition forces in Afghanistan, initially to flush out the 9/11 terrorists, has

CHILDREN IN ORPHANAGES

Recently, I investigated the claims of one particular Christian organisation (name withheld) who promote sponsorship of children in orphanages. What I found was that the funds didn’t benefit the particular chosen child directly, but rather indirectly, namely, the funds went to the institution and not to the specific child per se. In my opinion, this amounts to

Is COVID-19 insurmountable?

The world would have us believe that we are dealing with an entirely new set of (medical) problems in overcoming this latest, potentially deadly attack on mankind. Day in and day out, we are bombarded by hourly, and even half-hourly news, of how this virus is wreaking havoc in our midst. This is the reality

Prayer for those who feel isolated due to COVID-19

The present fallout of COVID-19 is absolutely huge! I may be stating the obvious. If we stop to consider what enforced isolation really means, we realize the enormous present suffering that people have to endure due to this sinister and devastating disease that presently has gripped most of humanity! Psalm 91 talks about “the

Time for repentance is NOW!

REPENTANCE! When the perpetrator has claimed his victim: REPENTANCE! When the victim has stated the wrong: REPENTANCE! When the victors march triumphantly: REPENTANCE! When the captives are finally released: REPENTANCE! When the prisoner ceases denying his crime: REPENTANCE! When the apparent “good man” boasts of his deeds: REPENTANCE! When all has been said and done:

THE PLIGHT OF PALESTINIAN CHRISTIANS

INTENSE PERSECUTION IS DRIVING ENDANGERED CHRISTIANS OUT OF GAZA Terrorists in Gaza have rained down hundreds of rockets on Israeli civilians over the last several months. THE VOICE OF THE VOICELESS

A Poem by Pia Horan-Gross   At dawn I awake suddenly, startled, to the voice of a million voiceless cries.   Children, hidden away for secret exploitation. Hands raised in violent threats, pinning them down, sealing their silent screams.   Young women, enticed and deceived. Trapped, like butterflies in a sticky spider’s web. Their agonised

WE NEED TO STRIVE TO KEEP THE BIG PICTURE IN MIND

We all love to make judgements on big and small issues; it’s an innate characteristic of mankind. The trouble is that often it is based on personal biases, gut instinct, brainwashing by others, parental teaching or cultural norms. Self-awareness of this is a wholesome, balancing factor in one’s outlook on life. Americans distrust Iranians, Iranians

The refugee issue doesn’t go away but increases in its complexity!

The refugee issue doesn’t go away but increases in its complexity! Opinions on how to “manage” this issue vary from country to country and from individual to individual. Some adopt a hardline approach, with tight border controls and limited assistance, to discourage being flooded by this needy people group. Others have a more laissez-faire approach,

Man’s continuous fateful choice!

Since the dawn of time, man has been at loggerhead with God’s appointed plan for mankind; namely to have a close relationship of dependence and obedience with Him. JUST AUSTRALIAN POLITICS?

As unbelievable as it seems, today will determine whether we as a country, are facing another leadership spill! Sadly, it’s becoming a pattern in Australia! Reminder: Nauru! Keep praying for peace and goodwill towards stranded refugees on Nauru

Without a shift in attitude, both from the people and authorities on Nauru and from Australian authorities, the fate of released refugees seems grim. They find themselves in a place with few opportunities, usually surrounded by a hostile community and deprived of their hopes and dreams. They need help, inspired and ordained by the God
