(This prayer can be applied to any country)
Holy God. Help us as a nation, and those in positions of authority (parents, teachers, ministers – both of religion as well of politics, judges, councillors and counsellors, police, even editors of newspapers, writers and others), to be responsible, accountable and mature stewards of those You have entrusted to us, forsaking neglect, abuse, profiteering, deception and any other self-centred (and therefore immature) practices.
We ask that if we or anyone in a position of power are abusing such power, that You would warn us, either directly or through others, and if we fail to listen, that You would remove us quickly from such positions, for the sake of those we may harm, for the good of our Nation and for Your Name’s sake.
We cry out for the spiritual maturity of righteousness, mercy and responsible stewardship, in all that we do, as a Nation. Amen.
Prov. 29:2: “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when the wicked (beareth) rule, the people mourn.”
1 Tim. 2:1-3: “I exhort therefore that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men (people, for clarity – my addition); For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For all this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;”
2 Chron. 7:14: “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then (emphasis mine) will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
This Scripture below is taken from Psalms 27:12-14 and is written by King David on behalf of his son Solomon, who would become the wisest man on earth (of course, apart from Christ) to describe the actions of a righteous king (which should reflect the character of God). Should present-day leaders take note of this? Only if they desire wisdom and godliness!
“For he will deliver the needy who cry out,
the afflicted who have no one to help.
13 He will take pity on the weak and the needy
and save the needy from death.
14 He will rescue them from oppression and violence,
for precious is their blood in his sight.”
